We’re the New Owners of Debt Free Forties (plus FAQ)

Donghia family photo

Hello, Debt Free Forties reader.

My name is Mike Donghia, the new owner of Debt Free Forties.

If you’re getting this email, it’s because you are still subscribed to this blog’s email list.

I would love the opportunity to prove myself worthy of the trust you’ve given, by earning that spot in your inbox. But, of course, I know not everyone will be interested in sticking around.

There’s any easy “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of every email I’ll send– just give it a click if you’d like to be taken off the list.

If I were you, I know I’d have some questions. I’ve done my best to anticipate them below with my best answers.

Sincerely,
Mike

What happened? Why was Debt Free Forties sold?

Several months ago I stumbled upon Debt Free Forties while searching for something on Google. I noticed it hadn’t been updated in nearly two years, so I reached out to Tana, the former owner.

Of course, I was really impressed with what she had built and all the passion she had poured into this blog over the years. But priorities shift and she found herself investing time elsewhere.

I asked if she would be interested in selling the blog to me. After a bit of conversation and getting to know each other, we reached an agreement.

Why did you want someone else’s blog?

My wife and I have been blogging together for about four years on our personal blog, This Evergreen Home.

We write about living simple, intentionally and relationally in this modern world.

About a year ago, after taking on some additional freelance writing, I decided that I wanted to spend even more of my time writing. There were things I wanted to write about that didn’t exactly fit our current blog, so I considered starting a new one.

Well, actually, I did try to start a new blog. But I realized, given the current landscape, it’s really hard to get a new site off the ground.

I love the thrill of writing for an audience, and so the idea popped into my mind of finding a dormant blog with an existing audience and bringing it back to life.

That’s how we got here today.

Who are you?

As mentioned above, my name is Mike Donghia. The above photo is of me and my family– it’d be weird if it wasn’t, right?

My wife Mollie homeschools our four kids while I work from home at a tech-related job that I enjoy (especially my colleagues).

I started my first blog in college and quickly pivoted from going to law school into a career in digital marketing and content creation.

What will you be writing about?

The theme of this blog will stay the same: personal finance.

My wife and I graduated college with $70,000 in debt and paid it off in 3 years. We’ve adopted a minimalist lifestyle with frugality at its core– and I want a place to share those lessons and personal stories with you.

I’m also an obsessive researcher, so my hope is to distill the best of everything I’ve learned about managing money, improving your finances, and the psychology of living a simple life focused on what matters most.

Future topics include debt payoff strategies, smart budgeting, frugal living tips, and the mindset shifts that make financial freedom possible.

How often will you be writing?

I’m one of those old-school writers that actually enjoys writing. And I’m a fast writer, too.

So you can expect to see a new post on the blog nearly every day.

I know that means a new email in your inbox everyday, which some people might find overwhelming.

Feel free to skip around and pick the ones that look most interesting to you, or use the weekends to catch up.

At some point in the future, I hope to add the ability to get a weekly digest email.

Feel free to drop me a line and introduce yourself: info@debtfreeforties.com
