47 Ways to Make an Extra $1000 a Month
This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my disclosure for more information.
Whether you’re looking to pay off debt or pump up your emergency fund, there are plenty of ways to learn how to make an extra $1000 a month.
An extra $1000 a month can be a real game-changer when it comes to paying off debt. Plus, it’s a small enough amount that can be hit quickly enough without working 80 hour weeks.
What Jobs Make $1000 a Month?
You can learn how to make an extra $1000 a month with a variety of jobs, from hourly work to starting your own business, and everything in between. If you work 40 hours a week, you’ll need to average $6.25 an hour to hit $1,000. (Don’t forget taxes, expenses, etc). If you want to work less hours, then you’ll need to make more per hour.
I’ve pulled together the best ways to make that extra cash every month and sorted them into categories. First, you’ll find side hustles that are quick and easy. They require little to no investment of time or money to get you earning.
Then, we’ll get into the more involved side hustles that will take some time and investment, but the potential earnings are much more significant.
These are all jobs that you can pick up quickly and have a low bar of entry. There’s no long start-up process, so you can count on these to help you learn how to make an extra $1000 a month quickly!
Start with reviewing your current job.
I always suggest looking at your current job to see if there are any ways to make more money there. It’s a great thing to check out, since you already work there, and know how to do the job. Consider the following avenues:
- Request extra hours
- Ask for a raise
- Negotiate to take on additional work for more pay
- Offer to do the jobs everyone hates for a pay bump
- Ask for a referral fee for any new customers or employees that you bring into the business
Grabbing extra hours or finally asking for that raise is one of the easiest ways to boost your earnings every month, and can help you earn that additional $1000 quickly without a big learning curve or learning any new skills.
Getting Started Making an Extra $1,000 a Month from Home
If you don’t want to put a lot of effort into earning, but still want to make a couple of extra 100 a month, these quick and easy jobs are your ticket. Individually, you won’t make an extra $1000 a month, but doing two or more together can help you hit that threshold.
1. Pallet Flipping
Potential earnings in a month: $1 – $10000+
Difficulty: Medium
Large retailer stores like Target, Home Depot, Walmart and others need to get rid of customer returns, overstock items, and damaged goods. They pack everything up on a pallet, and sell it to liquidators for pennies on the dollar.
Then, you can purchase these pallets from the liquidation companies and resell the products through Facebook Marketplace, eBay, Amazon, and others. Learn more about starting a pallet flipping business here.
2. Surveys
Potential earnings in a month: $1 – $100+
Difficulty: Easy
Online surveys are a great way to make money while watching tv, waiting at your kid’s soccer practice, or needing to kill some time. Individually, they pay anywhere from 50 cents to $5, depending upon how long they are, the subject matter, and which survey platform you use.
Some of my favorite survey sites to pick up this easy work include:
3. UpVoice
Potential earnings in a month: $1 – $175 a year
Difficulty: Easy
UpVoice is unique because you install a browser extension and scroll through your social media feeds as usual. UpVoice’s browser extension gathers anonymous information on the ads being shown to you as you scroll. You can make up to $175 in the first year, and while that’s not going to tip the scales a ton, it’s a start!
Learn more about how UpVoice works here.
4. Focus Groups
Potential earnings in a month: $1 – $1000+
Difficulty: Easy
There are so many great focus groups out there where you can review and provide your feedback on some really fun and interesting topics. From trying out toys to talking about politics, there’s a focus group out there for just about anything. As a bonus (one of the best things to come out of the pandemic), many focus groups are doing interview and webinars online. So you don’t even have to leave your house to participate! The pay is great, and the more specialized the group is, the more it pays. Learn more about how to get started and which focus groups pay the best here.
5. Cashback Apps and Websites
Potential earnings in a month: $1 – $50+
Difficulty: Easy
Cashback apps are a great way to save on products that you usually purchase anyway. From rental cars to deodorant, you can find cash back apps or portals on a lot of things.
Your earnings within a month will depend on how much you spend, and the savings you offer. For example, waiting until TopCashBack offers 15% off at your favorite store to make a purchase is an easy way to save even more.
Some cashback apps give you a rebate on specific products, while others give you a percentage back from purchases at certain stores. I always check the following apps/shopping portals before making a purchase:
- Ibotta
- If you want to know more about Ibotta and if it’s legit, you can read my review here.
- Fetch Rewards
- Rakuten (formerly Ebates)
- Topcashback
- Paribus
- Swagbucks

6. Referrals
Potential earnings in a month: $1 – $500+
Difficulty: Easy
Your workplace, apps on your phone, and the services you use often offer referral fees. They can vary greatly, from $1 on up, depending upon their program.
If there’s a service or app you love and would tell a friend about it anyway, check to see if they offer a referral or affiliate payout. Often you can find referral or affiliate information in the footer of their website.
If not, try googling “company name referral fee” or “company name affiliate program” and see what you can dig up.
7. Credit Card and Bank Account Bonuses
Potential earnings in a month: $1 – $500+
Difficulty: Easy
I’ve met people who make $3500 a year by opening new bank accounts. The hardest part is that often the bank wants a reoccurring direct deposit set up and for the account to stay open for a certain amount of time.
Be warned that you have to pay taxes on these payouts and will receive a tax form for any earnings during the last year. But for a mere 10 minutes of work, I think I’ll gladly take that $350, thankyouverymuch!
8. Scrounge for Change
Potential earnings in a month: $1+
Difficulty: Easy
We all have a ton of change everywhere around the house – in jars, on dressers, at the bottom of your purse. Pull all those quarters together and put the kids to work rolling it to cash it in. Better yet, use these secrets to cashing in your coins to find a place to cash them in loose, and skip the rolling!
9. HealthyWage
Potential earnings in a month: $1 – $500+
Difficulty: Medium
HealthyWage pays you to lose weight, making this a two birds, one stone no-brainer. If you’re looking to shed some pounds anyway, why not get paid?
HealthyWage allows you to place a “bet” on your weight loss. Enter how much weight you want to lose, how much you are willing to wager, and the time frame for your weight loss. You’ll then submit your height and weight to complete the calculation and see your final prize amount.
The average HealthyWage user loses 40 lbs and wins $1245. Not bad for something you need to get around to doing anyway, right?

10. Sell Pictures of your Feet
Potential earnings in a month: $5 – $1000+
Difficulty: Easy
You can earn anywhere between $5 and $100+ per photo when you use a subscription website to sell photos of your feet. They do all the heavy lifting of dealing with transactions and payouts, you just provide the content. Interested in learning more? Read How to Sell Feet Pics Online and Earn Tons of Extra Cash.
11. Sell Your Stuff
Potential earnings in a month: $1 – $500+
Difficulty: Medium
With the quarantine and being at home, it’s the perfect time to sell an old car, baby stuff, clothes, electronics, and anything else you don’t use anymore. Bust out those Marie Kondo skills and a cardboard box, and start sparking some joy (at making money!).
The best places to sell your stuff are:
- Craigslist
- eBay
- Decluttr
- Garage Sale
- Facebook Marketplace with porch pick ups
- Poshmark
- ThredUp
- Local Consignment Shops
If you’re good at selling stuff online and finding amazing bargains, you then might want to scale up to retail arbitrage. This involves finding items at stores deeply discounted, and then reselling them on sites like eBay. You can also try dropshipping, which means that you’re the middle man between the manufacturer and the buyer. With dropshipping, you don’t have to deal with having storage for products – the manufacturer will ship them out for you. You can learn more about how to make an extra $1000 a month with retail arbitrage and dropshipping, as well as the best tips and tricks to make sales, on eBay here.
Have any Disney VHS tapes laying around? Here’s where you can sell your Disney VHS tapes for the most profit.
12. Flipping Furniture, Cars, Etc.
Potential earnings in a month: $10 – $2000+
Difficulty: Easy
If you’re crafty or handy, pick up old furniture for cheap at yard sales (or curb alerts or dumpsters!) and learn how to flip them. Some just need cleaned up, while others need a good layer of chalk paint or sanding. Sell your pieces on Facebook Marketplace, eBay, or Etsy for the best results. Learn which pieces are best to resell on Etsy here.
Haven’t tried chalk paint before? Learn the tips and tricks of how to chalk paint here. Or, see an example of a mirror frame that I redid with paint.
You can flip a lot of things – including cars. If you know how to fix them up, and how to find good ones that just need a tune-up, this can be the best way to make $1,000 extra fast.
13. Test Websites
Potential earnings in a month: $10 – $500+
Difficulty: Easy
I love website testing because it’s effortless to do and pays well. Giving feedback on website functionality is one of my favorite ways to make $200 or more a month online.
I do my testing through Usertesting.com, though there are several that are out there. With this one, you install an extension on your browser that records through your microphone and does a screen capture. As long as you have a decent computer or phone, you can easily do testing without a lot of set up.
I also love that it’s a chance to learn how to voice my opinions, which has helped me with my day job. I’ve learned to organize and vocalize my thoughts better.
Most tests include questions about how a site functions for you, what you think about the photos, or if the navigation makes sense to you. You don’t have to be a design guru, just someone who uses the internet and websites regularly!
14. Sell Unused Gift Cards
Potential earnings in a month: $1 – $500+
Difficulty: Easy
It’s so easy to make gift cards your go-to present for birthdays and holidays. Sometimes you receive cards to places you don’t even like. Rather than try and spend them anyway on something you don’t need, resell them through a company like Raise.com.
Raise.com is a hub where you can sell or buy gift cards at a fraction of the price. Once your gift cards sell, you are automatically paid via direct deposit, PayPal, or by check – your pick!
15. Sell your jewelry or gold
Potential earnings in a month: $1 – $500+
Difficulty: Easy
You don’t have to go to a pawn shop anymore to sell your jewelry or gold – now there are stores everywhere. It’s essential to find a reputable company, and I would suggest checking on yelp.com to find and read reviews before selling.
If you’re not sure if you’re getting a good deal, check out this online gold calculator to see how it compares and if you’re getting a decent deal.
16. Sell Electronics
Potential earnings in a month: $1 – $500+
Difficulty: Easy
If you have a stack of old phones sitting in a drawer (who, me?), use Decluttr to clear out your clutter and make some quick cash. Decluttr pays up to 33% more than if you trade your phone into your carrier, and they’ve backed by the Better Business Bureau.
To get started, you’ll walk through an online assessment for your phone, and Decluttr will provide a quote of how much they’ll pay. Then you’ll send in your electronics for free through the UPS. Once they receive the phone, you’ll get paid by check, direct deposit, or PayPal the very next day. It couldn’t be easier, right?
Decluttr also takes tablets, consoles, CDs, DVDs, games, books, legos, and more! Get started here >
17. Virtual Mock Juror
Potential earnings in a month: $5 – $400+
Difficulty: Easy
If you love true crime, try being a mock juror. You get paid to listen to a lawyer’s case and provide feedback. Your feedback can be given in person, through live chat, recording your voice, or through a questionnaire. Different companies pay much differently, from $5 to $400 for one case.
18. Use an Automated Bill Negotiator to Lower Your Monthly Bills
Potential earnings in a month: $30 – $500
Difficulty: Easy
I love love, love bill negotiating services like Trim, TrueBill and LowerMyBills.com. These apps will review your spending and try to trim your monthly bills and subscription services.
I’ve used AskTrim (or Trim) to lower my bills, and it was able to save me $280 on my internet, and then $120 after that deal was over. They also provide additional services such as medical bill negotiations and can help to deal with bank fees as well. While you’re not actually making money with this, you’re saving money on your bills, which helps to free up some cash every month.
How to Make Money with Your Car Every Month
There are lots of great opportunities to make some extra cash if you have a car and enjoy driving. With the additional restrictions society faces thanks to COVID, people are becoming more willing to pay for delivery services like Instacart and DoorDash.
1. Instacart
Potential earnings in a month: $1 – $500+
Difficulty: Medium
Instacart is the go-to service for quick and effective grocery delivery. Become a personal shopper who will do the shopping and delivery. With flexible scheduling and employment opportunities, it’s easy to earn money quickly and on your time!
Instacart is a great way to start making extra money right now. You mainly work by yourself and choose how much or little you want to work. It’s a great side hustle for a college student who need some extra cash to pay off those student loans.
2. Lyft
Potential earnings in a month: $1 – $500+

Right now, Lyft is offering a $250 bonus if you apply and are accepted. With increased prime time pricing and the ability to keep your tips, you’ll make more in less time when you start driving with Lyft.

How to Make an Extra $1000 a Month by Offering a Specialty Service
People are willing to pay for services that they either don’t have the ability to do, or don’t have the knowlege. If you have a marketable service that people need, they’ll be willing to pay for it – especially today, when we’re so busy and never have time to do the things we should. Some of the best ideas are:
1. Clean and organize homes
Potential earnings in a month: $100 – $100+
Difficulty: Easy but physical work
I’m thisclose to paying someone to clean and organize for me. It feels like an endless (and thankless) job, and one I’d be more than happy to hand off.
The market for this is pretty big – everyone from people who are easily overwhelmed and stressed out (me) to people who have mobility issues, and more. If you like to clean, and are good at organizing, this might be the gig for you. Start as a one person show, and expand as needed as you grow your business.
2. Moving Services
Potential earnings in a month: $200 – $1000+
Difficulty: Easy but physical work
When people move, they’re stressed out, overwhelmed, and sometimes don’t have friends or family around to help out. You don’t even have to provide the truck, just the muscle. And, you might even score tips, beer or pizza as a bonus!
3. Junk removal or parking lot cleaning
Potential earnings in a month: $25 – $1000+
Difficulty: Easy
I see posts on Nextdoor all the time for people looking for junk removal – whether from a remodel or just spring cleaning. Not only can you get paid for hauling it away, you can also get paid by the scrap yard for the metal.
Cleaning parking lots for businesses is a unique and lucrative opportunity. Brian from CleanLots has been earning six figures for over 40 years doing just that. Learn more here about how he started his business.
4. Yardwork
Potential earnings in a month: $100 – $1000+
Difficulty: Easy but physical work
Yardwork is something a lot of people struggle with, whether it’s due to lack of time or mobility, or they just plain hate it. You can choose to offer as many services as you like, including: mowing, trimming shrubs, cleaning gutters, landscaping, edging, planting, maintence, stone work, and more. Start with your neighbors and build a network of referrals through word of mouth.
5. Home repair
Potential earnings in a month: $100 – $1000+
Difficulty: Medium, depending upon the job and services requested
Again, this is one of the top requests that I see on Nextdoor. A lot of people were never taught how to do basic home repair, much less the more complicated items like electrical work. If you have the skillset, people are more willing to pay for someone else to do this work than figure it out on their own.
6. Home personal trainer
Potential earnings in a month: $100 – $1000+
Difficulty: Easy but physical work
Thanks to COVID, many gyms are closed, and even if they’re open, some people aren’t comfortable going into one. If you’re a gym lover who wants to teach others perfect form while doing squats, check out local Facebook groups or Nextdoor for work.
7. Personal chef or caterer
Potential earnings in a month: $500 – $1000+
Difficulty: Varies
If you love to cook or bake, becoming a personal chef or caterer can be your way to earning extra cash. A friend of mine owns a company called The At Home Chef and cooks these amazing dinner parties that he posts on Instagram. People hire him for special birthday dinners, celebrations, and other small gatherings.
Catering can be anything from baking cupcakes for kid’s birthday parties to creating seven course wedding dinners. It’s all in what you want to try your hand at. The fancier you get, the more you can charge per plate.
8. Wedding or party planner
Potential earnings in a month: $500 – $1000+
Difficulty: Varies
No one wants to spend their big day making sure things are happening on time or correctly. If you’re naturally organizing and great under pressure, consider working as a wedding or party planner. You can work independently or get hired as a consult with a company in the business.
9. In-home daycare provider
Potential earnings in a month: $500 – $1000+
Difficulty: Varies on how many kids and how difficult they are 😉
If you have little ones, this is a no brainer. It’s easy to watch other kids when you already have everything set up, including the toys, safety measures, and schedules. Offering in-home babysitting can include one time, daily or weekly schedules, depending upon your local parents needs.
10. Seamstress
Potential earnings in a month: $100 – $1000+
Difficulty: Varies per project and client
Sewing is something that’s not taught much anymore, and even when it is, chances are, folks aren’t as capable as those with tons of experience. When you want to get a wedding dress altered or a suit tailored, you want a professional (again, not me, ha ha!). This is a service that people are most definitely willing to pay decent money for since it’s an important outfit.
How to make $1000 a month as a kid
While many of the jobs suggested so far don’t work well for kids, don’t worry – I’ve pulled some of my favorite money-making methods for kids to make some cash as well.
1. Babysitting or Nannying
Potential earnings in a month: $25 – $250+
Difficulty: Medium (or hard, depending upon the kids)
Yes, the old standby – babysitting. It’s the tried and true easy way to make some quick cash. As long as overtired parents are begging for a night without cartoons, Cheerios, or diapers, you’ll be flush with jobs. Let’s face it – you can’t pour from an empty cup, so as long as their are kids, there will be parents in need!
It’s even better if you can turn this into a weekly or bi-monthly gig. Offer a discount for multiple babysitting sessions in a month and sell it as a package deal.
2. House sit / Pet sit
Potential earnings in a month: $25 – $250+
Difficulty: Easy (or medium, depending upon the pet)
House or pet sitting is also a fun way to make some cash, especially if you love animals. One time we babysat a dog, bunny, and hermit crabs for one household. The kids loved it!
Use services like Rover.com and Trusted Housesitters to extend your clientele base. Or, post your services on sites like Nextdoor.com.
3. Sell baked goods or crafts
Potential earnings in a month: $1 – $100+
Difficulty: Easy, perfect for bakers and crafters
If you enjoy baking or crafting, you don’t have to hop on Etsy to sell your goods. Find local farmer’s markets or community festivities to sell your products. Or, only fulfill made to order requests, so you don’t have to worry about having extra inventory.

Bonus: How to make an extra $1,500 a month online
Looking to earn even more money online? These online or at home jobs are a great way to supplement or replace your current income. These are my favorite places to look for additional work and side gigs to do at home:

3. Become a Virtual assistant
Potential earnings in a month: $100 – $1000+, average of $26 an hour
Difficulty: Easy – Medium, depending upon the work/gig
If you love organizing and checking tasks off your to-do list, becoming a VA might be for you. There are many courses out there to help you learn how to package and price your skillset. You can then find jobs on sites like FlexJobs, which focuses solely on remote work.
The beauty of becoming a virtual assistant (or VA) is that you get to pick what tasks you enjoy doing and offer just those services, such as:
- Answering emails and returning phone calls

- Research for blog posts, articles, or podcasts
- Publishing and promoting blog or Pinterest content
4. Freelance Writing & Proofreading
Potential earnings in a month: $100 – $1000+

5. Audio Transcription
Potential earnings in a month: $100 – $1000+

If you’ve specialized in medical coding and jargon for any reason, you can also niche down into medical transcription, which pays even more.
6. Twitch Streaming
Potential earnings in a month: $100 – $1000+
Difficulty: Easy
If you love video games, streaming on Twitch can be very lucrative. Twitch streamers get paid in multiple ways, including donations, sponsorships/brand deals, ad revenue, and paid subscriptions.
7. Search Engine Evaluator
Potential earnings in a month: $13 – $1000+
Difficulty: Easy
- Search engine evaluators check to make sure that the results that show up are accurate. It’s task-driven, flexible work that pays well. It pays more than $13 an hour, and you can find employment through these companies:
8. Create Printables or T-Shirts
If you have graphic design knowledge and access to software like Canva, you can make printables that you can sell on Etsy. Think things like budgeting docs, craft (Cricut) designs, and more. The best part is – there’s no shipping since it’s a digital download.
A Graphic designer can also use print on demand companies like CafePress to create and sell graphics. With these, you upload your design file, and they handle the ecommerce, printing and shipping on you behalf.
9. Start a YouTube Channel
We all take videos of our daily lives anyway, why not make it a full-time job? Start by finding a great idea that people want to know more about, then create content in your spare time and build on it as you go. From there, there’s a lot of different ways to monetize your hard work, from ad revenue to an online store.
Bonus: How to make $1000 a month in passive income
Want to make even more money in a month? Starting some streams of passive income brings income in with less consistent monthly workload. With passive income, you tend to do most of the work at the beginning, and then reap the rewards in the following months/years.
1. Investment Properties
Potential earnings in a month: $500+
Difficulty: Hard
There are a lot of factors that play into investment properties, but this is something that’s not for the faint of heart. You have to be able to pay a second (or more) mortgages and play the landlord as well. You’re responsible for maintaining property and following protocol if tenants stop paying. However, if you can handle this type of work, the returns are much more significant and can make an extra $2k a month or more.
You can also invest in real estate through services like Fundrise. Instead of becoming a landlord and dealing with renters, you can use as much money as you like to invest in a real estate portfolio. It’s a blend of traditional investing and real estate, making it an easy way to dip your toe into both worlds.
2. Rent Your Stuff
Potential earnings in a month: $100+
Difficulty: Medium
You can rent just about anything you own – from your pick up truck to tools, parking spaces, even a room in your house. While you ultimately are responsible for the maintenance and care of these items, renting out high demand items can make back their cost many times over.
Some of the best stuff to rent out includes:
- A room or your house (think AirBnB)
- Car
- Garage
- Storage space
- Office space
- RV
- Tools
Begin by finding a peer-to-peer rental app to list your stuff. With a little digging online, you can find an app that’s specific for the type of product you want to rent out. Don’t forget to check your home or auto insurance to see how renting it out might affect coverage. Also, research pricing to make sure you’re not too high or low, and list in various places to get more hits.
3. Blogging
Potential earnings in a month: $0 – $15,000+
Difficulty: Medium
I’m not going to lie – blogging is not for the faint of heart. I would only recommend it to people who like to write, network, research, and are comfortable with editing websites. These tasks are just the tip of the iceberg on blogging, but if you love a challenge (like I do!), give it a shot.
Once you get your rhythm and balance out your tasks, and that extra income starts to trickle in, you can scale up and exponentially grow your revenue. A bit of business sense helps, but it’s really about sweat equity and sticking with it until you make real progress. You can learn more about the tools and courses I use here and how to make an extra $1000 a month blogging.
4. Affiliate Sales
Potential earnings in a month: $0 – $15,000+
Difficulty: Medium
Affiliate sales are similar to referrals. You find products or services you want to promote, join their affiliate program, and then follow their guidelines to promote sales.
Affiliate sales occur on blogs, Pinterest, emails, and ads. Each affiliate program has its guidelines about what’s acceptable promotion.
The payout can vary significantly for each sale, from 50 cents to hundreds of dollars. Again, it depends on the program and the product, and you can make $1,000 in 24 hours – or more! Click here to learn more about how affiliate marketing works.
5. Investments
Potential earnings in a month: The sky is the limit
Difficulty: Medium – Hard
Investing is something that generally takes some education. Again, if you can find a way to invest without too much research or guesswork, this can be an easy way to make a quick $1000 in one day.
A basic understanding of investing is good, but you don’t have to know every single in and out of the process.
Thankfully, there are now lots of options to help you invest. Robo-investors can analyze and adjust on your behalf, like Betterment. There are also apps like Acorns that take your spare change and invest it for you, so you don’t even realize it’s missing.
Now that you know how to make an extra $1000 a month, you can easily pay off debt or save up for a vacation. If you’re looking for more side hustle ideas, try one of these:
